Uzbekistan - PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Currency / Business hours / Transportation / Internet / Basic conversation guide / Langages spoken

Currency

The currency is the Sum (UZS), which was introduced on July 1st, 1994.
Any medical tests must be paid on the spot in cash. Besides, as for any other business or tourist trip, it is advised to subscribe an additional insurance policy.

Business hours

Companies and public bodies open from 9 AM to 1 PM and from 2 PM to 6 PM, Monday to Friday.

Transportation

Road

The bad roads maintenance makes the traffic difficult and dangerous, including in the cities. Drivers and pedestrians have to be very careful because of the behaviour, sometimes unpredictable, of local drivers. There are few gas stations and the quality of the gas is unequal. Plan a reserve for long distances.

Rail

The Tachkent-Boukhara-Urgentch-Noukous line goes through the Turkmen territory on the major part of the distance. It is said that Turkmen border guards sometimes swindle occidental tourists because they do not have any visa for Turkmenistan.

Air

The fleet used for international flights (Airbus, Boeing) meets Occidental standard. On the other hand, it is not sure that the maintenance procedures of the domestic lines aircrafts are scrupulously respected.

Internet

The Internet suffix is: .uz

Languages spoken

The languages of Uzbekistan are Uzbek, Russian as well as Tadjik.
