Agriculture

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Slovak Republic is the central authority of the State Administration. The ministry manages 4 important sectors of the state economy: agriculture, food industry, forest industry, hunting, fishing and waters development.
The Slovak Farm-produce Chamber (CHAAS) has an important position in the sector. There are 36 farm-produce chambers, 36 unions and professional associations and 28 non-productive organizations.
The basic rules of the land policy of Slovakia is: the long-term and permanent goals of land policy are the rational and effective exploitation of the agricultural soil potential, technical and human ressources for foodstuffs and non-dietary production, while respecting ecological requirements and the needs related to the protection of the landscape and to the preservation of the rural population.

Farmland surface area:

The areas under cultivation include arable lands and those with permanent crops. In Slovakia, they represent 1,604,000 hectares.
