Political system


New Zealand is an independent sovereign State since 1947, and a member state of the Commonwealth since 1907. It is a constitutional monarchy and the British Crown is represented by a General Governor appointed for five years (last nomination in 2001). The Executive power is held by a cabinet, composed of twenty Ministers, and presided by the Prime Minister. The Parliament is composed of one Chamber, the House of Representatives, which counts 120 members elected for 3 years. The government and the official administrations are in Wellington, the capital of the country.

Prime Minister: Helen Clark (NZLP - Labour Party), since December 6, 1999.

Food


Traditional dishes


In New Zealander food, there are a lot of meat-based dishes (beef, pork and lamb). There is also a large variety of vegetables, of which the Kumara is the local potato. Finally, there is also a large variety of fishes.
Pavlova: traditional dessert prepared with meringue, cream and fresh fruits.
There is a large variety of wines and alcohols, renowned worldwide.
