Political system


Lithuania is a constitutional Republic since 1992. The President is elected for a five-year term. The legislative power belongs to the Lietuvos Respublikos Seimas (Assembly), composed of 141 representatives elected for four years. The last elections took place in October 2000. The right to vote is reached at the age of 18.

Head of State: President Valdas Adamkus elected on june 27, 2004.
