The official language of Iran is Persian which is also called Farsi. Farsi is understood by 83% of the population. Moreover, Iran is home to several minority groups who speak dialects related to Farsi. The use of these dialects is gradually extinguishing. It is also important to note that lots of ethnic minorities, common with the neighbouring countries are located close to the Iranian borders. Among the large minority groups, we should mention the Azeris (20 %) and the Luris (6.6 %) in the North, the Kurds (9%) in the West , the Arabs (2.1 %) in the South-West, the Turkishs (1.5 %) in the North-East, the Baloutchis (1.3 %) in the South-East.
