Agriculture

Since the accession of Hong-Kong by the People's Republic of China on July 1st, 1997, figures appearing in tables below correspond to those of the People's Republic of China.
There is only 8% of arable lands in Hong-Kong. The agricultural activity is almost non-existent. Some vegetables are cultivated and breeding is purely industrial. In 1997, fishing reached more than 210,000 tons.
As a concequence, in 1997, the agricultural adverse balance accounted for more than 5 billion dollars.

Farmland surface area:

The areas under cultivation include arable lands and those with permanent crops. They represent 7 000 hectares in Hong-Kong and 135,565,000 hectares in China.
