Political system


Estonia is an independent parliamentary republic. The constitution dates from June, 1992 and was passed by referendum. Riikikogu (the legislative branch) is the parliament and every representative is elected for a four-year term. The government is runned by the prime minister. The President is elected every five years and he is the Head of State.
Capital: Tallinn
Head of State (president of the Republic): M. Arnold RUUTEL, elected on September 21 2001.
Chief of government: Mr. Juhan PARTS, named on April 7, 2003.
