Agriculture
Agriculture is vital for Cypriot economy even if it contributes less and less to the GDP. Agriculture employs 23% of the population and must be modernised, especially in the perspective of the UE's enlargement. The topographic diversity and the special climatic conditions favour a diversified agriculture. Actually, the agricultural orientation policy is double :
- Improvement of the productive capacity, by expansion of the irrigation system and modernization of the agricultural technics,
- Harmonization with Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and with Common Fish Policy of the UE.
