Political system


Colombia is a presidential Republic. Parliament is bicameral, composed of the Chamber of Representatives (Camara de Representantes , 161 members) on the one hand and of the Senate (Senado de la Republica, 102 members) on the other hand. Leading country party is "Colombia First" (Primero Colombia), allied with the Colombian Liberal Party (Partido Liberal Colombiano). The elections for both chambers take place every 4 years. The President of State has been Alvaro Uribe Velez since the 26 may 2002 and for a 4 years period.
