Cameroon - PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Currency / Business hours / Transportation / Internet / Basic conversation guide / Langages spoken

Currency

The currency is the CFA franc.

Business hours

Banks are open from Monday to Friday from 7.30 AM to 3 PM as well as administrations.

Transportation

Road

Avoid driving by night because risks incurred by day, on damaged roads, are multiplied by the presence of vehicles parked along the roads or abandoned after accident. There are a few lacks of gas supply in the big North, but it is advised to plan reserves because of the distances between the points of distribution.

Rail

Badly maintained and there are often thefts of luggage, the railroad network knows a general improvement of its performances since its privatiation of last year. It is not very much travelled by visitors.

Air

Monopoly of the company "Camair". Regular domestic flights are not guaranteed and the presentation of a valid ticket is, sometimes, not an assurance to have a seat. Since the beginning of 2000, a private company "National Airlines Cameroon" ( NAC) ensures flights on the line Douala / Yaounde / Ngaoundere and return as well as on the line Douala / Yaounde / Bertoua and return.

Internet

The Internet suffix is: .cm

Languages spoken

Official languages: French and English. In business, French is most frequently used, although English is not uncommon.
