Currency


The local currency is the Belarusian rouble or RBB.



Business hours


From 9 AM to 12 AM and from 2 PM to 6 PM. Schedules are sticked up on the door of the stores and they vary with the store. During the week, all stores open from 9 AM to 7 PM. Some grocery stores open on Sunday and on holidays but they close earlier. Weekly days off: Saturday and Sunday.


Transportation


Road


Police and customs controls are very long when crossing borders between Poland, Lithuania and Belarus. To drive by night, even on main roads, is not recommended (few roadsigns). The frequent abuse of alcohol while driving makes the journeys dangerous. Supply in fuels is satisfactory. The Green card is required for foreigners.


Rail


Old. Watch luggage and documents and lock the door of the compartment during the night.

Air


There are few domestic flights. Planes are generally old and not confortable and the procedures of maintenance are not scrupulously respected.

Languages spoken


The official languages of Byelorussia are Russian and Byelorussian which are spoken by 80% of the population. It is important to note that other languages are also used in this country such as Polish, Ukrainian, Lithuanian and Yiddish.
